Validation under controlled lab conditions

Objective

Independent determination of the performance of your sensors and sensor-based devices.

Set-up

Sensors and sensor-based devices are exposed under controlled lab conditions following a pre-defined exposure protocol. VITO's lab testing infrastructure is temperature controlled and consist of a gas or particle generation section, a humidifier, an exposure chamber and reference monitors.

Results

The parameterization of a calibration function to convert sensor signals to concentrations of the target air pollutants. A comprehensive characterization of your sensors and sensor-based devices including the determination of:

  • response time
  • accuracy
  • repeatability
  • measurement range
  • cross-sensitivity to other pollutants, humidity and temperature

will be summarized in an independent validation report.

Validation for industrial applications

Objective

Validation of sensor and sensor-based devices for application in an industrial setting for fence-line monitoring, real-time alerting and other environmental and health and safety applications.

Set-up

In addition to the performance assessment of your sensors and sensor-based devices, speciation between components may be critical to your industrial applications. Therefore we provide a validation service for fingerprinting by relating sensor responces to state-of-the-art monitoring results (GC-MS, Syft-MS) upon exposure to real air samples in several dilution steps.

Validation for urban applications

Objective

Air quality in urban areas is of primary concern. VITO will assist with the optimization of your sensor-based application for air quality monitoring in an urban setting. Our services include sensor validation under real-life conditions, interpretation of sensor data, air quality management based on sensor data and long-term quality assessment and control of sensor networks.

Methods

Costumer-oriented solutions are provided to fulfil the objectives above, including:

  • Simultaneous monitoring with state-of-the-art monitors for the main pollutants (NO2, O3, SO2, PM2.5, PM10, other PM fractions) and meteological parameters
  • Development of calibration algoritms accounting for potential cross-sensoritivities
  • Development of  models to extract and interprete information from sensor networks
  • On-the-fly calibration of operational sensor networks

Results

The services we offer will further optimize your sensor-based application by improved quality assessment and control of your sensor network and improved interpretation of the sensor data.
